Course Review: We use a checklist for basic components and are still discussing content evaluation. Please see attachment. This is a combination of the form we used at East Tennessee State University with a few tweaks and a few added items recommended from the MECC DEIT
committee.

Adam Bryant Adam Bryant     Linda Claussen Pre-Enrollment: DE website (http://de.nr.edu) with course listing including specific DE information (delivery format, meeting requirements, testing format, etc...), Distance Learner Quiz and other resources to determine if a good option for the individual, FAQs, etc. Faculty have many opportunities for training/interaction/discussion with each other and DE staff throughout the semester. Re-usable training activities and themes (Marsha does excellent, very creative activities) have been developed in-house. Focus is always on application, not promotion or generic group tech training. Faculty are encouraged to implement technology that fits a specific need and we assist in implementation to reduce the need to change their work style/habits. Training efforts include non/low-tech solutions as well and best practices for teaching/learning. Teaching/learning dependency on technology is discouraged (fall back on the tech-free methods) and helps to keep faculty/students calm and on track when tech fails. The student experience is related to faculty as much as possible.
Engagement: faculty development in e-learning, course design and quality assurance processes, faculty encouraged and trained in student engagement techniques for e-learning. Custom/personalized online startup process for students to get all details and checklist to begin courses accessible at time of registration (as courses are not accessible until classes begin)...instills a comfort level to open them to engagement when the course begins.
Evaulation: DE courses/instructors are evaluated every semester using a custom online system, extensive QA process, mid-semester evaluations for new online courses.

Some of our instructors require students to attend the College Orientation and meet with them for the first class meeting.

Our College Orientation is required for first time students and distance learners. We have Blackboard help sessions, SIS/ email, Learning Resources and Welcome sessions.
