VCCS Student Information
System (SIS)
|
Version: 3.0
Status: Draft - 05/01/00
Contact: James E. Davis
Purpose
The purpose of this Guideline is to define the standard desktop hardware and software requirements to support the client portion of the VCCS PeopleSoft Student Information System (SIS) client/server architecture.
Scope
This guideline covers the minimum desktop hardware and software configuration that is required to support access to the Student Information System and the other standard applications and network services that are currently deployed across the VCCS intranet.
Applicability
This guideline is applicable to both Windows and Web Clients deployed at the colleges. Customers desiring access to the SIS from an off-campus location may elect to use other hardware configurations but the software requirements will be consistent with this guideline.
Guideline
General
The speed or response from the PeopleSoft SIS will in large part be determined by the speed and configuration of the desktop computer being used. A faster processor and corresponding amount of real memory should translate in faster response times.
To ensure consistency in performance and support the following guidelines should be followed in deploying PeopleSoft SIS clients on the campus.
Minimum Desktop Computer Requirements
All colleges should follow the VCCS Desktop Guidelines (see http://www.vccs.edu/its/guidelines/Desktop%202-10-99.html) when purchasing new or replacement desktops. The VCCS also strongly recommend that colleges follow these same guidelines when deploying the PeopleSoft desktop clients. It is important to include in the final desktop configuration sufficient resources to support all the applications a customer may elect to use in addition to the PeopleSoft applications. The following is a summary of the VCCS minimum desktop guidelines for deploying the PeopleSoft SIS Client as defined below:
