The VCCS has developed a shared facility that will provide the hardware,
software and connectivity for all services related to the implementation,
maintenance, support and on-going operations of the SIS. Colleges can elect to
augment these shared services by installing selective servers on the campus.
The list below summarize the servers and the related operating environment:
Software:
- Windows 95, 98 or NT will be used for desktop clients. The colleges will
be responsible for selecting the product and licensing the appropriate
desktops.
- Netscape or Explorer will be used for web clients. The colleges will be
responsible for selecting the product and licensing the appropriate
desktops.
- Windows NT Server is the recommended operating system for the file servers
however colleges can elect to deploy whatever is applicable in their current
environment.
- Unix (AIX) will be used for the application servers. The Utility will be
responsible for licensing these shared servers.
- Windows NT Server will be used for the software support or distribution
servers. The college will be responsible for licensing and operation of the
equipment.
- Unix (AIX) will be used for the production on-line database server and the
batch/reporting server. The Utility will be responsible licensing and
operation of the equipment.
- Unix (AIX) will be used for the development server. The Utility will be
responsible licensing and operation of the equipment.
