The following are the instructions for completing the Student Information System (SIS) Security Class form.
A Student Information System class definition is used to organize customers into groups with common security access rights. Individual operators (customers) linked to a class inherit the system security attributes of the operator class.
Class Name (Required) - a name that represents what the class will be used for. The class name is limited to 8 characters (first character must be an alphabet). The VCCS Security Officer will assign the class name.
Description (Required) - a brief description of what the class is used for.
Business Process Map (Optional) - a graphical representation (map) of one or more business processes. The business process map must be pre-defined to the SIS system.
Background Disconnect Interval (Required) - used to free up resources that would otherwise be used to keep a database connection active for every open instance of PeopleTools. Select from the following background disconnect options:
Time-Out Minutes (Required) - the number of minutes of inactivity allowed at a desktop before the system automatically signs the operator (customer) off the SIS online system. Inactivity means: no mouse clicks, keystrokes, import, file print, or SQL activity. Select from the following time-out options:
Signon Times (Required) - specify sign-on days and times when operators (customers) are authorized to sign-on to the SIS online system. If operators are signed on to the system when the sign-on time expires, they are automatically signed off. The default is every day, 24 hours a day.
Process Groups (Optional) - a list of the various process security groups assigned to the class. A process security group is a collection of programs and reports needed for a particular job function. If a class has access to a process group, the operators (customers) that are linked to that class will have access to all the programs and reports for that process group.
NOTE: Currently, all defined classes will have access to all SIS pre-defined process groups in order to execute all programs and reports. This will change as VCCS begins to define the prototype models and the related process groups.
Menu Items - list of authorized menus for the class security definition. Select the type of access for each desired panel by placing a 'X' under the action types.
The available menu items consist of the following:
NOTE: Having access to a panel (menu item) will not automatically provide access to the data displayed on that panel. The operator is only able to view the panel. The security required to manipulate the data is granted as part of a different process.
ACTION TYPES - select one or more of the following for each Item Name of the menu list:
