The WDS unit is committed to promoting continuous improvement and
building the capacity of workforce development systems, programs,
services and curricula in Virginia.
VCCS
Instititutes of Excellence
The VCCS IE-IT develops educational programs, services, and partnerships
to support colleges in becoming world class providers of training
in all areas of information technology.
Information
Technology (IE-IT)
The VCCS IE-IT develops educational programs, services, and partnerships
to support colleges in becoming world class providers of training
in all areas of information technology.
Advanced
Technology (IE-AT)
The VCCS IE-AT identifies, develops and fosters strategic partnerships
to provide a wide array of education, training, workforce development
and technical services that support Virginias advanced technology
industries.
Building
Technology (IE-BT)
The VCCS IBT works to ensure the success of building technology
education and educational paths in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Workforce
Development Academy (WDA)
The Workforce Development Academy is a partnership between the VCCS
and the University of Virginia to provide customized courses and
training for community college, workforce and economic development
professionals to develop/expand the skills and competencies associated
with the profession of workforce development.
WDS
Policy and Workforce
Investment Act of 1998 (WIA)
The WDS unit plays a role in providing staff
support to the Virginia Workforce Council, which serves as the State's
Workforce Investment Board and is tasked by the Governor with the
development of a comprehensive workforce system. In addition, as
a required partner in state and local one-stop systems of employment
services, the WDS unit of the VCCS provides support and technical
assistance to colleges working at the local level to implement WIA.
Perkins
Post Secondary Grant Administration
The WDS unit is responsible for providing
overall direction for the use of Carl
D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998
funds to post secondary institutions for state administration, state
leadership, professional development and improvement of occupational-technical
programs.
Ace
Affiliate Office
The VCCS System Office has
partnered with the American Council on Education to become one of
15 state affiliate offices to facilitate ACE's College Credit Recommendation
Service in Virginia.
