Child Care Training Programs

Introduction

In 1997, the Virginia State Legislature passed an appropriation of non-general funds out of the state’s TANF block grant to provide child care training to TANF recipients or TANF eligible family members.  The Virginia Community College System was one of four named agencies charged with developing and providing that training.  In 2001-2002, the VCCS will expand to a system-wide network of child care training for TANF recipients that will be based at Education for Independence (EFI) single parent programs and/or other programs using the EFI model at community colleges.
